About the Lake
Oxtongue
Lake offers excellent swimming and bathing along the predominantly sandy
shoreline. Water clarity on the lake is excellent. Maximum depth of the
lake is believed to be 90 feet. Fishing is good in the area. Fish species
present include small mouth bass, yellow perch, lake trout, rainbow and
brook trout and many other smaller species. Abundant wildlife such as
ducks, loons, blue herons, beaver, muskrats, moose , deer and foxes call
this area home too.
The lake is enclosed by large sections of Crown Lands and the close proximity
to Algonquin Park ensure a backdrop of wilderness pleasure.
Many Area Attractions
Probably the biggest attraction in the area is Algonquin Park - several hundred square kilometers of sprawling wilderness, full of moose, deer, and many other species of wildlife. Algonquin Park offers 100 km. of groomed nordic ski trails, a wide variety of hiking trails, mountain bike trails, camping and canoe routes.
For the not so adventurous, there are five golf courses in the area,
of varying skill levels. There is also Alpine skiing and snowboarding
nearby.
Sightseeing is richly rewarding
- Ragged Falls one of the biggest waterfalls in the area, is a magnet for photographers and hikers alike.
- Oxtongue
Rapids - a good whitewater area in the spring, a favorite picnic
area and walking trail. Typically in the fall the artists and photographers
set will come for the incredible colours and never regret it.
- Dorset is about 15 minutes away and is famous for it's scenic lookout tower offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Oxtongue is beautiful in all seasons
